Here at the Medilink BioEducation Lab, there’s a range of fascinating, practical and fun activities – all based in a real-life lab equipped with state- of-the-art facilities. Whether it’s the sense of achievement or the feeling of responsibility and empowerment, every student benefits from the opportunity to make the link between theory and reality – for some, it’s life changing.

What we offer:

  • An exciting and stimulating opportunity for GCSE and A-Level students to carry out practical workshops, curriculum led, related to today’s cutting edge bioscience.
  • Expert supervision by Ph.D. graduate laboratory demonstrators who impart their knowledge to students in an interesting, inspiring and enjoyable way.
  • Specialist, fully risk-assessed state-of- the- art laboratory based at BioCity Nottingham, the UK’s largest bioscience and innovation incubator centre.
    The range of hands-on specialist workshops we offer has been designed to complement the curriculum, enhance a student’s learning experience and bring bioscience to life.

 

The workshops and activities:

  • Solving a murder mystery using DNA fingerprinting.
  • Extracting and bottling your own DNA to save and take away in a necklace.
  • Who Do You Think You Are? – Compare your DNA with others.
  • Genetic Engineering – re-engineer bacteria with genes from a jellyfish.
  • And.. available by arrangement ‘Meet The Scientist’, a Q/A career insight session with an expert from the bioscience industry .

 

We deliver:

  • State of the art training lab facilities
  • Expert teaching from trained professionals
  • Professional, fully risk assessed environment
  • Accommodate up to 16 students per workshop (plus 2 non-paying members of staff)
  • Full day/half day options
  • On-site parking available for school minibuses

 

Since 2006, we have given more than 4,000 students an opportunity which will hopefully have positively impacted on their learning experience and encouraged them to continue with their scientific studies beyond school.
