World of Work Conference September 2012

New College, Leicester
Wed 26th September 2012, 8:30am til 12:00pm

Outline of the Day

The aim of these events is to develop Year 10 (aged 14 to 15 years old) students understanding of the world of work in a fun and interactive way whilst having the opportunity to speak first hand to employers, therefore LEBC are looking for enthusiastic and inspirational business volunteers to support the day by bringing the world of work into the classroom.

The students will begin the day in the hall where LEBC will introduce the day set them off on a teambuilding activity. Following this, students will then move to the classrooms to take part in employer led workshops.

We are looking for employers to facilitate workshops which will help develop students understanding of the world of work and the skills needed to be a success in it.

Business volunteers could either facilitate your own workshops or you could facilitate one of ours of which we would train you up on before the day.

Workshops should last 45 minutes and be designed for 14/15 year olds. In the past employers have delivered power point presentations about their career with hints and tips on how to succeed in the workplace sharing their experiences and even showing videos of work that they have done. E.g. an event they have organised. If you have any practical tasks, perhaps something that you do at work that students can participate in then we would encourage you to bring this in. We can work with you to put together a workshop if you do have some ideas. If you wanted to deliver an LEBC workshop then once again we would work with you to train you up on the activity before the event.

In total you will see 4 groups of students, there will be between 15 and 20 students in each group and they will be aged 14 to 15 years old.

If you would like to get involved or would like to discuss some ideas around workshops then please do get in touch. We would love to hear from you.
