STEM Career Insights

St Pauls School, Evington, Leicester
Mon 17th September 2012, 8:30am til 10:30am

Would you be able to describe your job to a 13 year old, making it clear how you use Science, Technology, Engineering and or Maths in an exciting way?

During this event you will spend about 15 minutes in front of a class of students, telling them about your experiences of working in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Over the course of the morning you will see 3 or 4 classes of 25 students who are in year 9 (aged 13).

Ideally your talk will highlight:

  • the skills you need to be successful in your chosen STEM career
  • the best and worse parts of your job
  • what an average day would involve
  • your greatest achievement in your working career so far
  • a general ideal of the entry routes – is it best to go in via apprenticeship or degree etc.
And to answer any questions that the students have.

If you can bring a prop that relates to the work you do then all the better! By showing students pieces of equipment that you use, or pictures of you ‘on the job’ it will help them to understand your work more clearly.

No previous experience is necessary for the event as it’s fun, fast paced and easy to get involved!
