NCS- National Citizen Service

Over 1250 young people will take part in Summer NCS, starting their 4 week programme on a camping residential week, taking part in activities such as rock climbing, archery and raft building and making new friends. This will be followed by a week’s residential at De Montfort University’s amazing campus, where they will be developing their skills, through daytime activities with employers, and evening activities of Sport and Arts.  Lots of music and dance takes place during the first 2 weeks to help everyone connect with each other, having fun and developing their communication skills. Leadership and teamwork at the same time. During weeks 3 and 4, each team of 15 young people, led by their staff mentor, will carry out a project which will make a difference to their community.

NCS provides opportunities for young people to challenge themselves, reflect on their opinions and actions. It gives them increased responsibility and independence, a chance to demonstrate inspiration and to get along with a wide variety of young people and adults who they meet. These skills are sought after by employers who look for young people with positive attitudes who can add value to their businesses.
